BACKGROUND: Akuma is the second genetic creation of Sigma, engineered after the failed Creation #1, Rayne. He was created from Sonic's cells, and was given Sigma's controlling S-Gene to keep him under his command. Prior to Sigma's first attack, he was sent into the wilderness for training, and met a warrior named Kari who helped him to resist the control that Sigma had over him. When the attack began, Sigma called for him to fight Sonic, and the two engaged in a furious battle which led them into the depths of the Death Eye. With Sonic's pleading, Akuma rejected the S-Gene and turned on Sigma, using his Final Flash to destroy himself, Sigma, and the Death Eye. Sonic and the others buried his remains in Knothole Graveyard, where over the course of a year, he used his regenerative abilities to reform his body and return to life. He has since become a vital ally of the Mobian heroes, and the main opponent of Sigma's followers, including his "siblings" Akane and Vile.
