BACKGROUND: Mai, a young echidna from Angel Island, wandered into Korringwood and happened to run into Taka, quickly falling for him. As time passed they grew closer and bonded with each other, eventually beginning a relationship.  She has become close friends with both Trance and Keyoni, and despite her generally peaceful outlook on things, she is very defensive and protective of her friends and especially Taka.  While her bloodline is not fully known, Tikal believed that Mai was her grandniece. Her relationship with Taka is unique, as hedgehog-echidna pairings are very uncommon on Mobius.  When in a good mood, Mai is perhaps the most pleasant and relaxed person of the Korringwood crew, but when in a bad mood or drunk, her temper rivals that of Sakura, and she shoots out potentially friendship/relationship destroying words.  This is a reason why Taka and the girls prevent her from drinking, and try to keep her in as good of a mood as possible.  In the original timeline, after thinking she lost Taka in the battle against Vile, she became serious, almost devoid of humor, and focused on killing Takile.  She cut her hair short, and fiercely fought with Taka's old lightsaber in North City and Metropolis.  Upon seeing Takile in a hallucinated form of Taka, however, the happiness she had lost finally returned to her, but Takile used this as fuel to corrupt her into an evil form.  She and Takile had a son, named Tajin.  In the altered timeline, Mai had been worried when Taka vanished, only to learn that he had been trapped in the Internet of Dimension Earth, and was later drawn to Earth herself, trapped in the arcade game Shyguy Big Battel with 13 others.
